Commissioners hire county administrator

Dallas County commissioners voted Tuesday to hire a new county administrator for the first time in 24 years.

Darryl Martin, 46, is assistant county administrator for Clark County, Nev., the nation's 15th-largest county, which includes Las Vegas. Martin will replace Allen Clemson, who resigned last month to take a job with the University of North Texas' Dallas campus.

Martin will start April 27. His two-year employment agreement is worth $190,000 a year, not including $10,689 in auto and phone allowances. The county paid a search firm up to $50,000 to find Martin. He was one of 14 candidates from across the country.
